Cheryl Kneip Peterson's Obituary
Cheryl Kneip Peterson was born on January 14, 1956, in Blackfoot, Idaho to Ervin and Darlene Kneip. She was the first born of five children in her family. She graduated from this life, in her daughter’s home, surrounded by family, after a short battle with an extremely aggressive form of cancer.
Cheryl grew up in Blackfoot, Idaho where she learned to love nature, camping, birds and softball. She graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1974 and continued her education at Rick’s College where she graduated with an associate’s degree. Cheryl would go on to service an LDS mission in the Anaheim California Mission.
Cheryl was introduced to the love of her life, Bryan, by her bishop at the time, who happened to be Bryan’s uncle. They were married and sealed for all time and eternity on September 28, 1984, in the Idaho Falls Temple. Bryan and Cheryl were blessed with 4 children and out of all her roles in life, being a wife and mother brought her joy. But her greatest joy of all was her grandchildren.
Cheryl was diagnosed at a very young age with rheumatoid arthritis, but pain didn’t stop her from doing the things she loved and spending time with her family. She had a knack for bird watching and would take every opportunity she could go spotting.
Cheryl is survived by her loving husband, Bryan, her four children: Chris Peterson of Orem, UT, Katharine (Amando) Santos of Provo, UT, Stephanie (Brad) Hansen of Provo, UT, Michael Peterson of Provo, UT and her 4 grandchildren Joshua Yuan, Milo Yuan, Fred Peterson and Oaklyn Hansen. She is survived by her sister Dianne (Rulon) Brower of Danielson, Connecticut; brothers Lynn (Liz) Kneip of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Rick (CaTrena) Kneip of Arimo, Idaho. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Ervin and Darlene Kneip, mother and father-in-law, Golden and Lois Peterson and sister Sharon Henrickson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2026 at the Slate Canyon Stake Center, 1315 E. 900 S. Provo, UT. Family and friends will gather for a viewing on Thursday, June 25, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Slate Canyon Stake Center and again 1 hour prior to the funeral service.
Our family would like to give a special thank you to the ICare Hospice Team who helped mom during her last week of life as well as provided care and support to our family at a very difficult and heartbreaking time.
This life won’t be the same without her but the genuine kindness, caring and unconditional love will forever be in our hearts as well as others. We miss you mom!
