Christopher Travis Mortensen's Obituary
Chris Mortensen (Christopher Travis Mortensen) passed away unexpectedly on the morning of February 20, 2025 in West Valley City, Utah. Chris died peacefully in his sleep of natural causes. Chris left us way too soon into his loving Heavenly Father’s arms at 53 years young.
Chris was born on August 28, 1971 in Sat Lake City, UT to parents Bruce R Mortensen and Regina “Gina” Kip. He graduated from Kearns High School in West Valley City, UT. Chris was a very talented artist, painter and wood carver having done cherished commissioned works for many people. His specialty was drawing dogs as he loved animals and especially dogs. Chris was also a very talented bowler, bowling in various leagues and having recently just bowled a “300” game.
Everyone who knew Chris will remember him for his overwhelming compassion and empathy for others. Chris was very simple and always put others first in his life and would do absolutely anything for anyone. His door was always open and he welcomed anyone and everyone with an open heart, listening ear and desire to help. Chris exemplified Christ-like attributes and behavior in everything he said and did. Chris never turned away anyone (including a stray animal) in need. He had unconditional love for everyone.
Chris was proceeded in death by his father, Bruce Mortensen and his beloved dog “Gumpy” who was waiting for him on the other side. Chris is survived by his mother Gina Mitchell, step father Glen Mitchell, brother Shane Mortensen, half-sister Ashley Mortensen, several step-siblings and his sweet dog, “Fred”, who is now in his mother’s care.
Funeral services for Chris will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025 at Premier Funeral Services Mortuary, 67 E 8000 S, Midvale, UT. There will be a viewing at 11:00 AM followed by the funeral service at 12:00. Chris will be laid to rest after the funeral at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 E 4580 S in Salt Lake City, UT. The evening before Chris’ passing, he said to his family over dinner, “The only king I will ever bow to is my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
