Sharyle Karren
On Monday, after Chris’ funeral, I was driving down the street and noticed a school bus. It was then that I realized for the past 25 years or more, I have been checking the driver of every school bus I pass to see if was Chris was the driver.
The first time I saw him was at Hillcrest High School when he arrived to take some kids to an activity. He always had that great smile and the chuckle that went with it. I saw him various times at schools, when I was a Principal, when he was filling in for someone. I never had the privilege of having him as my school bus driver, but I was always on the lookout for him. He was always the same great happy guy.
I realized on Monday, as that Canyons District bus passed, that I did not need to check out the busses any more, as Chris will not be there. It was a bit of a sad moment then and now as I think about it.
I know for sure that Jim is so happy to be reunited with his friend, Chris. They had great years of playing football together and hanging out with Jim’s parents who loved Chris so much. Chris and Jim spent many hours talking about girls and dating options for Chris, as we were married before him. They also talked about marriage and how to be great husbands and fathers.
Jim spent many hours listening to Chris’ experiences with Stephanie’s illness, not knowing if there was a cure or if it would work. Trying many options, one by one. It was a hard, but character building time for Chris. His faith, prayers and blessings were a blessing to his family and to us as we watched our dear friend take on such a challenge. We were blessed by the many experiences we had with Chris.
Chris loved his family wholeheartedly. Love to you all. May you continue to have sweet memories of your father, grandfather, brother, friend.
