Christopher Tong's Obituary
On January 8, 2025 Christopher Tong, surrounded by his loving family, passed away after 3-year battle with lung cancer. He was 64 years old.
He was born in Hong Kong, China and immigrated with his family to the United States in 2001, settling in Sandy Utah. Christopher was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served a mission in the Hong Kong area during his youth and always gave his all with callings and service in the church.
Christopher was a devoted husband, father, brother, and scholar who will be deeply missed by all who know him. Christopher was born with a passion for learning and a determination to make a difference in the world.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Westminster College and a doctorate degree in economics from the University of Utah. He chose to become a professor as his lifetime career. Over his 30-year career, Christopher touched countless students with his humor, wisdom, kindness and unwavering commitment to integrity.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lydia, and his cherished daughters, Ching and Kiu, who were his greatest pride and joy, as well as his elder brother Alfred, elder sisters Albany and Becky, and their families. Christopher’s love for his family and his enduring legacy as a compassionate and thoughtful individual will remain forever in their hearts.
Chris loved fishing, playing mahjong, and watching action movies and NBA games, and became a long-time fan of the Utah Jazz basketball team. He also loved to make jokes and to tease his daughters, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will honor and celebrate Christopher’s life on Saturday, January 25th at the Mount Jordan 7th Ward Chapel. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 235 East Sego Lily Drive,
Sandy, Utah. The viewing will begin at 10:00 am, followed by the funeral service at 11:45 am. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Christopher’s memory. Contributions can be made at the following link:
