Clark David Jones' Obituary
Clark David Jones passed away surrounded by his family on August 20, 2023. Born on May 12, 1935, to Beatrice and Waldo Jones in Wells, NV. He attended Wells High School where he was student body president, the University of Nevada Reno where he graduated with honors and the University of Utah where he completed his post-graduate studies. Clark served as an officer in the United States Army Artillery Branch for two years following his schooling.
Clark married LaRue Morrison in the Salt Lake Temple in 1953. Together they raised five children. Clark had a love for music and he was a talented trumpet player, he participated in numerous choirs and he sang tenor in several barbershop quartets. He always had a tune in his heart and often times he would answer questions by singing a verse or two of a popular song. Clark was an avid tennis player and he enjoyed playing golf with his family and friends.
Clark was a Certified Public Accountant and was a partner in the firm of Main, LaFrentz and Company (now KPMG Peat Marwick). He was President and Chairman of the Board of Summit Family Restaurants (formally known as JB’s Restaurants) for nearly 30 years. Under Clark’s leadership, JB’s grew from a small restaurant company of a dozen stores to a regional restaurant company with over 150 stores in a dozen states.
Clark was service oriented as indicated by his service on the Board of Directors of the Utah Restaurant Association and the National Restaurant Association. Clark had tremendous business knowledge and experience and he often offered advice to his many friends, family and business associates. Clark served on the Board of Directors of MDT Corporation for ten years. He was also Chairman of the Utah Opera Company and President of the Sugarhouse Rotary Club. Clark spent six years with the Public Service Commission where he served on the Board of Directors of the Gas Research Institute Advisory Board. Just prior to Clark’s retirement, Clark joined his daughter to start Premier Title Insurance Agency where he served as Vice-President of Finance.
Clark was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in several bishoprics and leadership positions throughout his life. He served as a temple worker in the Draper Temple, and he served a three-year service mission at the Salt Lake Conference Center.
In 1986, Clark married Pam James. Together, Clark and Pam traveled the world visiting over 30 countries. They have a great love for each other and they are a great example to the rest of us as to how to have a happy and successful marriage. Clark and Pam especially enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Clark is survived by his wife Pam (James), children Debbi Thompson (Kim), Pam Landgren (Lynn), David Jones (Jane), Diane Olson (Kurt), Christy Baxter (Rich) and 21 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the Sandy Utah Granite View Stake Center, 9880 South 3100 East, Sandy, Utah 84092 at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 28, 2023. Internment will be at Granite Cemetery located at 2969 East 9800 South Sandy, Utah following the service. A celebration of Clark’s life will be held for all family and friends at Pam & Clark’s home located at 9717 Ruskin Circle, Sandy, UT immediately after the services, lunch will be provided.
