Colleen Kay Larson's Obituary
Colleen Kay (Patterson) Larson of Plain City, passed away on February 10, 2020. She was born August I, 1951 in Ogden Utah to Joseph and Bonnie Patterson. Colleen married Roger Enoch Larson on September 27, 1977 in the Ogden Temple.
Colleen was named by her mother after Miss America 1952, “Colleen Kay Hutchins”. Colleen was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. Some of her favorite calling’s were the Relief Society President in Georgetown Texas and Gospel doctrine teacher in New Mexico and Ireland. She loved to do genealogy.
Colleen loved the fact that her grandfather, W.O. Collard was in the sheep business. She loved going to the sheep herd when she was young. As a reflection of those memories she collected pictures, statues and / or anything that had sheep on it. Colleen was very proud of mother’s side of the family, who came from England and Wales. Colleen’s father’s side came from Scotland. Her 3rd. great grandfather came from Scotland and settled in Riverdale where he started a farm that was handed down from father and son for 4 generations until the State of Utah put highway 84 through it. After that Colleen’s family moved to Plain City when she was twelve. Colleen has a genealogy of Patterson’s in Scotland that goes back sixteen generations.
Colleen worked in Ogden after High School as a bank teller at Commercial Security, then at McKay Dee Hospital. After marriage she worked in California at Amdahl Corporation. While living in Texas she worked for BBCON Training & Publishing.
Colleen graduated from Weber High in Ogden Utah and then attended Weber State College. She loved going to dances (hops) in High School and enjoyed drama. She always looked forward to Church Stake dances. Colleen and two of her friends from Plain City formed a trio and made matching dresses and went to different church wards to sing and entertain. In College she most enjoyed her dance classes and institute. Colleen loved associating with her friends and family, she was a social butterfly. After she got married, her husband, Roger, thought of her as his angel on earth, and she pretty much was.
Colleen loved to cook and try new things and we all loved to eat what she made. She has been such an example of a Christ like life, full of service and caring for and about others. Her and her husband moved back to Utah from Texas in 2006 to take care of her parents and her husband’s parents for eleven years. Her mother was the last of the four parents to pass away. One month after her mother passed away she was diagnosed with stage four incurable cancer.
Colleen was loved by so many while on her mortal journey and so many more that went before her. We can only imagine the joyful reunion as she passed to the other side and with no more pain.
Colleen is survived by her husband and best friend, Roger E. Larson, children: Jessica (Brian) Barcelona, Gavin (Christine) Larson, Tasha Robins, Nathan (Holly) Larson, Amanda (Johnny) Brackenbury; 16 grandchildren, with one on the way; sister Connie Monroe, Brothers Brian Patterson and Blair Patterson.
Colleen was preceded in death by her father Joseph Ray Patterson and her mother Bonnie Rae (Collard) Patterson.
