Colleen Daisy Malouf's Obituary
Colleen Daisy Malouf
1935 – 2017
Colleen passed away on Friday, August 18, 2017. She had been fighting a brave battle with cancer since January of 2005. Colleen enriched our lives for decades through an unwavering commitment to family. She expended great energy, incurred inconvenience and spent countless hours on our behalf, yet always with exuberance, enthusiasm and a beautiful smile on her pretty face.
Colleen was one who strived to break the proverbial “glass ceiling,” invariably meeting with successful endeavors. She graduated from the University of Utah which began her many years of diversified, progressively responsible administrative and management experience in the non-profit sector, private industry, education and marketing. She served as president and CEO of Friends for Sight from 1984 until her retirement in 2012. She was also the first president of Care-Utah. She was the president of the University of Utah Emeritus Alumni Board. She was a member of the Rotary Club of Salt Lake where she served as vice president, president and chaired many internal committees. She was an active member of the Episcopal Church of St. Mark, where she served on the vestry, Alter Guild and as a Eucharistic lay minister. She was a member of the Assistance League of Salt Lake and the Utah Symphony Guild.
Although a woman of diminutive stature, Colleen was a dynamo with remarkable accomplishments. She personified integrity, graciousness, humility, loyalty, decorum, an adventurous spirit, a positive outlook and an anything-is-possible attitude. She was young at heart and an avid listener. This unique blend was a gift to people. Every person, every place, every moment had value to Colleen, an attitude that made her life rich and impactful. She believed every day was ripe with opportunity, a chance to help those in need, bring together old friends or meet someone new. She reveled in beating the odds whether in achieving positions of stature in her career or overcoming serious health issues. Colleen humbly referred to herself as a “little Lebanese lady” just striving to do her best. She amazed us over and over with her fighting one health crisis after another with an exemplary attitude and will to win. Her strong faith and closeness to her Lord kept her positive at all times. She contributed so much to family, friends, church and community, even during difficult health crises.
On one hand, there is an immediate void in our hearts, yet now, a special place overflowing with the fondest of memories. Colleen will be greatly missed, but ever present in our hearts and minds.
Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, Francis B. and Daisy Fadel Malouf. She is survived by her siblings, Blair (Judy Gertino) Malouf, Marylynn (Gary) Juhlin, Muzz (Darla Roberts) Malouf and Shirley Malouf. She is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. at the St. Mark’s Cathedral, 231 East 100 South, Salt Lake City, UT. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
