Colleen Farrer Means' Obituary
Colleen Farrer “Coco” Means left this world on July 14, 2026. She was born on a snowy day April 29, 1936 to Ken and Evelyn Farrer in SLC, Utah. Colleen and her parents lived in a small cabin on Scott Avenue. Her brother, Lynn, was born when she was four years old. In 1945 the family bought a new house on 1468 Zenith Avenue. Colleen convinced her parents their family wasn’t complete yet and sister Kathy was born in 1949.
Colleen attended Highland Park Elementary, Irving Jr High and South High. Her father started his own meat market in 1953 where she worked until her marriage.
Colleen attended the University of Utah briefly after graduating from South High where she met and soon married William Frederick Means. The couple was blessed with a forever family through the years consisting of seven children. Twenty-two grandchildren and thirty-six great grandchildren have since joined the family.
Colleen was a loving and busy stay-at-home mom until she earned a bachelor’s (and later master’s) degree in education in 1979. She taught at Jackling, Roosevelt and Canyon Rim Elementaries until her retirement in 1999. Colleen loved children and children loved Colleen.
Colleen was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings.
Colleen loved gardening and being outdoors in her senior years. She grew much of her own food. She was thrifty, resourceful, humble, kind and a great friend to many.
She will be missed by her children: Linda Sansom, Mary (John) Ferguson, Billy (Connie) Means, Susie (Keith) Olson, Julie(Brook) Wardle, Debbie ( Darren) Nord, sister Kathy Thompson, daughter-in-law Brigitte Means, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, son David, parents, brother Lynn and son-in-law Gregory Sansom.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Sunrise on Highland Dr for caring for Colleen these past few weeks.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 18 at noon at East Millcreek Stake Center 3103 East Craig Drive 84109 in Millcreek. A viewing on Friday, July 17 will be at the same location from 6 to 8 pm. An additional viewing will be held Saturday before the funeral services from 11:00-11:45.
