Colleen Sterling's Obituary
Our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother Colleen Sterling passed away on December 10, 2022, in Roy, Utah. She was born in 1927, in McGill, Nevada to Rollin and Ruby Draper.
Having lived 95 years, she witnessed incredible changes to her world. She loved McGill, Nevada and loved growing up and living in a company town. During WWII she met her loving husband, Wayne Sterling who served in the U.S. Airforce. After his service, he began his career as a boilermaker at Kennecott Copper in McGill. They made a loving home together where they raised their daughter, Cindy Danner. Colleen had a lot of memories and amazing historical knowledge, and her family was lucky enough to have heard so many of the stories she shared. She had a great sense of humor when sharing those memoirs.
She had a successful career at a bank for 30 years, where she was loved by her many customers and colleagues throughout the years. She was a whiz at mental math and was an impeccable speller. She also enjoyed a life-long passion for reading. Her early hobbies included playing cards, particularly Pan and Pinochle, along with bowling, knitting, sewing, and cooking. She grew up learning to dance at the Mormon Church and enjoying the Rec. Center in McGill. She also enjoyed many a picnic with friends and family up at the ‘creeks’ in McGill. After retiring, she loved to watch game shows and had amazing trivia knowledge in answering questions while intensely watching Jeopardy, along with enjoying the Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune! Additionally, Colleen loved watching the classic ‘old’ movies and westerns on TV, as well as taking strolls and sitting on the porch and the swimming pool deck. She loved hot tea, Diet Coke, popcorn, yogurt, and her cookies!
Colleen was a dedicated mother, first and foremost. She treasured her daughter and felt blessed to be her mommy. She especially loved her role as “Grammy” to her great grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. Colleen had a generous heart of gold, never hesitating to help her family out. You wouldn’t find a more dedicated mother, grandmother, or great grandmother. She always said her family was her entire life and she showed it in every way, to all of us.
Colleen was proceeded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Danner, and son-in-law Rex Danner and her three granddaughters Jaime Williams (Jason), Brianne Danner (Mike) and Brittani Wood (Dustin) and grandson, Jory Danner (Lisha). She is also survived by eight Great Grandchildren: Jalise and Justine Williams, Hadden, Kaislee, and Hadley Wood, and Ryder, Autumn, and Kade Danner.
At her request, there will be no memorial service or funeral by her immediate family. Colleen requested to have a celebration of life in one of her favorite places on earth, which will take place in the spring/summer of 2023.
