The Fort Smith Senior High Class of '59 sends their sincere condolences to Corethia's family. She will be missed. We are sending a small contribution to her charity: The INN Between. We are so sorry for your loss.
Corethia was a wonderful colleague at Judge Memorial. As a teacher, she inspired students with her intellect and depth of knowledge of her subject, but also with her wit and kindness. I remember her showing me the "special chair" near her desk for students who needed close attention, but I always thought those students understood that she was providing them with extra care, something they may have missed in other areas of their lives. We often shared ideas about classroom management and writing and I appreciated so much that she had high expectations for her students. She also often provided them with ways to succeed--her "tickets" to get out of class, for example. I will miss her invaluable advice to me these past few months as I have also been going through cancer treatment. Corethia was always generous with her wisdom and her humor. She was truly a beloved friend. Now, after her magnificent memorial service, I will never think of "When the Saints Go Marching In" without a smile and the warmest of memories. My condolences to her family; may God's gentle hand comfort them.

I remember taking AP Art History with her my senior year, I learned so much and it was exciting when she got to share artifacts from her archaeological digs. After I graduated Judge I came by after her class a few times and enjoyed talking about life in general. She was a tough teacher, but she cared so much for her students. She will be missed. May perpetual light shine upon her.
Corrections to my sister's obituary: Our father died at age 39 in 1948 and already had Masters' in Education and Agriculture. Our mother died in 2007. Thank you for caring for Pennie, Barbara Qualls Turner.
Dr. Qualls taught me how to look at the world in such a new, bright light. She encouraged me to think beyond my high school years and to start becoming the person who I wanted to be. She saw so much potential in my life and creativity. Still, to this day I don't understand why she cared so much but am so grateful for every moment I spent with her. My thoughts will be with her and her family during this time.
Corethia was the first teacher I met when I started working at Judge Memorial Catholic High School. I loved her quirky sense of humor and treasured stories about the digs she went on. Corethia was among my daughter's favorite teachers. She will be missed.
