Cornelis VanderHoek's Obituary
Cornelis (Keesie) VanderHoek passed away peacefully at home, October 8, 2021, surrounded by his family.
Keesie was born October 24, 1927 in Delft, Holland, to Nicolaas and Cornelia VanderHoek. He was the second oldest of six children living in Holland during WWII. He was raised by good parents who loved their children and made a good home for them through those difficult years. After the war he came to America and there he met his eternal companion, Bonnie Lee Savage. They were married December 19,1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Together he and Bonnie raised five children.
Keesie worked construction and had to follow the work. Therefore, he with his family lived in several places throughout their life including South Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. He also worked in Alaska and New Jersey. He retired to Chandler, Az. before moving to Utah for the last three years.
He and Bonnie served two missions for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. One to Aruba, Dutch speaking and one to Bowling Green, Ohio. Together they served as ordinance workers in the Denver, Washington DC, Mesa, and Gilbert temples. Dad truly loved the Lord and loved serving in all capacities, especially genealogy. He worked diligently for many years submitting more than sixty thousand names. With his limited education due to the war, dad accomplished everything he set out to do, including owning his own businesses, learning to fly small planes and teaching himself to play both the piano and organ.
Cornelis is survived by his children Corri (David) Wells, Ben VanderHoek, Rachel (Ronald) Green, Lottie (Todd) Ottley and Becky (Scott) Wilkinson, sixteen grandchildren and thirty-one great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, his parents and three of his siblings.
A memorial service will be held at Premier Funeral Services 5335 S 1950 W Roy, Utah, on Monday October 11, 2021 at 11 am with a viewing from 10-10:45 am.
