Daisy Rosa Cedeno's Obituary
On Wednesday, August 3, 2022, Daisy Rosa Lopez Pachay Cedeno, loving mother of two daughters, passed away at the age of 83. Daisy was born on May 19, 1939 in Montecristi, Ecuador to Eleuterio and Mercedes (Alvia) Lopez. Daisy was then raised in Manta, Ecuador. In 1955 she married Maximo Pachay and the following year they had a daughter, Gioconda. A few years later they moved to Guayaquil, Ecuador.
While living in Guayaquil, Daisy trained as a nurse’s assistant and shortly after, worked at a local hospital. In 1964 Daisy traveled to New York City to visit a relative (godfather) and decided to immigrate to the United States. Shortly after, she brought her husband and daughter to live in the Spanish Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan. A few short years later, they divorced.
While in New York, Daisy followed her love of clothing and utilized her sewing skills to become a professional seamstress in the New York City Fashion Industry, specializing in wedding dresses. For many years, she was a member of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union. In 1975 Daisy proudly became a U.S. citizen.
In 1974 she married Egberto Cedeno and had her daughter Diana. They later divorced and Daisy, with her two girls moved to the Bronx. Daisy continued to raise her two daughters on her own in New York City. In 1986, Daisy and her daughters became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 2003 Daisy and Gioconda relocated to Salt Lake City to be closer to Diana.
One of Daisy’s unmistakable gifts, aside her style and spunk, was that she loved to love on everyone. Those who met her could not help but have a lovely memory afterwards. One of her love languages was cooking and sharing food. When she became a church member she fed church missionaries every Saturday evening for ten years. She was also selfless with her sewing skills. She not only made clothes for her daughters, but also offered to make custom dresses and suits for others, for special occasions.
In her final years, Daisy and her oldest daughter lived together in the Poplar Grove neighborhood of Salt Lake City. They had a close bond and made a warm and loving home. Daisy enjoyed gardening, taking care of their dog Gloria and cats Gia and Glitter, listening to Ecuadorian music and spent as much time as she could with her two grandsons Oliver and Miles.
Daisy is preceded in death by her father Eleuterio, her mother Mercedes, and her brothers Polo Lopez and Jose Lopez. She is survived by her siblings Jaen (Julia) Lopez, Elsie Lopez (Carlos Sanchez), Merci Lopez, Mariana (Mario) Roa, her two daughters Gioconda Pachay and Diana (Ryan) Cedeno-Hanks and her two grandsons Oliver and Miles Hanks.
Daisy led an exceptional life, not only in her perseverance and independence, but most importantly, in the impression she left on others. We can only hope to honor her life by carrying on with her selfless model and memorable way in which she let people know they were loved. Per her daughter, Gioconda “Daisy was capable of loving everyone because she was like a goddess. She has a special place in heaven.”
Funeral Services for Daisy Cedeno will be held on August 13, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Colonial Hills Ward, 1455 S. 1700 East, Salt Lake City, Utah 84108. Viewing for friends and family will be from 10am-11am and funeral service from 11am-12pm. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Luncheon to follow.

Daisy llevó una vida excepcional, no solo por su perseverancia e independencia, sino lo más importante, por la impresión que dejó en los demás. Esperamos honrar su vida al continuar con su modelo desinteresado y su forma memorable en la que le hizo saber a las personas que eran amadas. Según su hija, Gioconda, “Daisy era capaz de amar a todos porque era como una diosa. Ella tiene un lugar especial en el cielo”.
