Darlyss Smith Cates' Obituary
Darlyss Smith Cates, age 80 passed away peacefully, on June 11, 2024. Born on December 11, 1943, in Sacramento California, she was the daughter of Harold Bell Smith and Thelma Elaine Smith. Darylss was preceded in death by husband, Donnie Cates, and beloved son, Trent Hammond.
Darlyss grew up in California and later made Utah her home to be close to her son Trent and his growing family. We have fond memories of driving back to California to visit family and Darlyss would sing “California, here I come right back where I started from..” to her grandkids.
Darylss was beautiful inside and out, she looked fabulous in leopard print and bright red lipstick. She always smelled divine and she had a love for the finer things in life. Darylss enjoyed a good margarita and dance parties in the living room with her family. She would always show up with delicious food and treats when she would babysit the grandkids for the weekend. She would spoil them with a movie marathon and a good time. She was a romantic at heart and loved a good love story. Her husband Donnie was the love of her life and her handsome cowboy. Darylss had a love for the Lord and we know the reunion in heaven was beautiful.
Darylss is survived by her daughter-in-law Nancy Hammond, sister Donna Lowell, her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4 pm to 6 pm on Saturday June 22, 2024 at Embassy Suites. 10333 S Jordan Gateway, South Jordan, Utah. Feel free to dress up or wear your favorite animal print.
