Darrell "Ray" Gregory (Squid)'s Obituary
Darrell Ray Gregory (Squid), affectionately known as Ray, passed away at the age of 77 on July 6th, 2024, in Roy, Utah after a long battle with health issues.
Born on October 30th, 1946, in Murray, Utah, to Leon Ray and Betsy NeVa Gregory, Ray lived a life full of love, service, and dedication. As a proud U.S. Navy veteran, he served his country with honor during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1972. He was an E3 machinist aboard the USS Epping Forest MCS17, a minesweeper stationed in Sasebo, Japan. He continued to proudly serve in the US Naval Reserves from 1972 to 1982. He loved his community and served as the equipment manager for the Kearns American ABBA Little league baseball.
Ray leaves behind the love of his life of 56 years, Karol (Thompson) Gregory. Their love story is one of unwavering devotion and enduring partnership. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Mauricea (Mont) Montgomery and Darrell Ray (Shanna) Gregory Jr., who brought immense joy and pride to his life.
His 6 grandchildren: Sarah (Toby), Keith (Tiffany), Skylar, Brent (Mike), Shylo (Garrett) and Tamber. In addition, his 6 great grandchildren: Rustin, Braxton, Bentlee, Avaree, Theodore, and Macie.
His Brother and Sisters: Mrs. Jay (Linda), Kay (Narena), Betty (Burnie), Linda (Kevin), Mrs. Don (Julie), Lola and Maurine.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents Leon Ray and Betsy Neva, sister Lavella and 2 brothers Jay and Don.
Ray’s heart was his family. He cherished every moment spent with them, finding immense joy in their company. Whether fishing, camping, or visiting his daughter’s property where they kept a trailer, Ray reveled in the simple pleasures of life, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the warmth of his loved ones. His happiest times were spent lounging on their deck, sharing laughter and love with family and friends.
Ray was also a talented craftsman, with a passion for cutting stones for his jewelry making and creating stunning stained-glass pieces. His creative spirit and meticulous craftsmanship were a testament to his patience and love for beauty.
Ray’s legacy is one of love, strength, and an unyielding spirit. He leaves behind a family who adored him and a life story that will be cherished forever.
A celebration of life for Darrell Ray Gregory will be held on Saturday July 20th, 2024.
