David Lewis Gardner's Obituary
David Lewis Gardner August 2, 1931 – October 4, 2022, Farr West, UT. Dave Gardner passed away peacefully at his home in the early morning of October 4th, 2022, at age 91. Dave was born in Merced, CA to Vernon Louis and Hazel Ellen (Olvey) Gardner on August 2, 1931. He grew up on a small family farm in Merced, CA. He proudly joined the Marine Corps in August 1949 shortly after his 18th Birthday. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and later joined the California National Guard. Dave went on to attend college and received a Baccalaureate Degree in teaching from San Jose State University. He was hired by Pacific Bell as a lineman/installer and eventually designed phone systems before he retired. He was married to his first wife, Dorothy Mae Taylor who was a switch board operator, in April 1956. They had three children Sandra, John, and Jane. Dave and his family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in September 1971 and were sealed together in the Oakland California Temple as an eternal family on October 3, 1972. Dorothy proceeded Dave in death in 1985.
Dave married Winifred West Dunsmore in December 1986 and were sealed in the Oakland California Temple. Dave loved to serve others and help others. He served in several church positions. Dave has a testimony of his Savior, Jesus Christ. He loved the temple and loved to do temple work. Dave and Winnie served a mission in the Washington D.C. Temple from 2005-2006. They also served as Ordinance workers in the Oakland California, Denver Colorado and Ogden Utah Temples. Dave believed strongly in being self-reliant and obtaining education. He asked that in lieu of sending flowers that individuals donate to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Perpetual Education Fund.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his brother William Gardner and sisters Ellen Engen, Nan Fasnacht, and Edrie Fox. He is survived by his wife, Winifred West Dunsmore Gardner, his children Sandra (Doug) Diamond, John (Iola) Gardner, Jane (Jeff) Kapp, and stepchildren Sherrie (Marlin, deceased) Uman, Brian (Donna) Dunsmore; 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Dave will be missed by all, and we look forward to reuniting with him in the eternities.
Funeral services will take place in Farr West Utah on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint, 2123 North 2000 West, Farr West, Utah. Funeral services to begin at 11:00. Interment immediately to follow at Ben Lomond Cemetery 526 East 2850 North, North Ogden, Utah.
