David Whitney Gundersen
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather died peacefully at his home in Holladay, Utah on April 13, 2016 of natural causes at the age of 94.
David was born December 17, 1921 in Idaho Falls to Orson Wilford Gundersen Sr. and Ingeborg Johanne Terjesen. The seventh of nine children, he grew up on Gunderson Lane in Holladay.
David loved sports playing basketball, gymnastics, softball and golf.
He was always a hard worker, beginning in his youth plastering homes with the family business. David gained skills in all phases of construction. He applied those skills building three homes for his family.
David was a veteran of WWII where he serving over three years in the Army Air Force.
David married Beth McConkie in 1944 and raised a large family of eight children. Together they have 44 grandchildren and were married for 33 years before Beth passed away from cancer.
David married his current wife Jane Papworth, and they have been together for 28 years. David and Jane were wonderful ballroom dancers.
David is survived by his wife Jane, his children, David Lloyd (Joyce) Gundersen, Linda Riding, Robert Gundersen, Laura (James) Hobbs, Clark (Terry) Gundersen, James (Kimbirli) Gundersen, Troy (Betsy) Gundersen, Rhonda Jill (Ernie) Cole and his younger brother John E. Gundersen .
David was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He will be severely missed.
The funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the LDS Chapel located, 1925 East Gunderson Lane, Salt Lake City, UT. Interment will follow at the Elysian Gardens Cemetery.
