David H Nichols' Obituary
David H Nichols died at home in Murray, Utah June 18, 2022. Cause of death is heart attack. David was born October 6, 1954 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the third son born to Herman Victor Nichols and Fae Richey Nichols.
David grew up on MacArthur Avenue and was an active member of the McKinley Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He played church sports, was an Eagle Scout in Troop 15 and loved the outdoors. He graduated from South High School, Class of 1973, where he was a member of the wrestling team, played on the intramural basketball championship team and enjoyed auto shop.
He studied diesel-mechanics at Utah Technical College (now Salt Lake Community College). After obtaining his certificate, he worked as a mechanic but was not a fan of working under big trucks, especially in the winter. He worked for Intermountain Lumber Company (now Intermountain Wood Products) for over 40 years. During his early years with the lumber company, he liked being able to hop over his back fence and be to work without any morning commute.
For recreation, he built rotating targets and liked to shoot pistols and rifles. He was too soft-hearted to be a hunter. David loved dogs and usually had a Labrador receiver as a pet. He spent hours working on his Corvette.
He genuinely liked people and had many friends at school, work and in his neighborhoods in Salt Lake and Murray. He liked to work with wood and metal in his home shop, but was happiest when using his skills to help family and friends.
David married Tina Lee Lewis on September 12, 1980 and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on their first wedding anniversary. David and Tina are the parents of Darren L. Nichols (Murray, Utah) and Samantha Nichols (Tooele, Utah).
David is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Darren and Amanda Marzo Nichols; his daughter, Samantha; four grandchildren: Ashton, Briana, Casey and Dylan Nichols; and his brothers, Craig (Aleath) Nichols of West Jordan, Utah and Scott (Patte) Nichols of Rexburg, Idaho. He was preceeded in death by his parents, infant brother, Bruce, and wife, Tina.
No funeral services will be held. If you would like to remember David, do a kind deed for a neighbor.
