David John Passey's Obituary
David John Passey, born May 9, 1969 in Ogden, Utah, is the son of Jack and Maxine Passey and bonus son to Judy Passey. Dave passed unexpectedly from this earth on September 2, 2022 at the age of 53. He leaves behind a legacy of intense passion for football, fishing, and food, but his passion for football was next level. Well, fishing was next level, too, and Dave always said he was never a man to pass up food, so it’s safe to say Dave was just a passionate man. But his family would say that his passion for the UTAH UTES trumps all! So it’s no surprise that after Dave finished playing baseball with the Bountiful Braves and graduated high school, he continued his education with the University of Utah. He graduated as a proud Utah Ute with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. We’re not sure how that landed him in a banking career, but he used his degree to forge lasting relationships with those he interacted with, both personally and professionally.
Dave was blessed with three amazing children: Courtney, Jake, and Jax, and he loved them fiercely. He was a very involved and interactive father and taught his children how to live life and value experiences over material possessions. They enjoyed the outdoors, the mountains, fishing, camping, golfing, and sporting events. They loved four wheeling, water activities, watching movies, and playing cards. For Dave, it was really about time and he made the most of it when he was with them. Dave was so proud of his kids and who they were and was always so eager to text out the latest picture or accomplishment to anyone and everyone, including his car mechanic who once received a fishing picture of Jax, but had never met him before. That was just Dave, a proud father who always wanted to share the love he had for his family.
Later in his life, Dave married Canesa, who he always called his angel, and now he has forever become her angel. Dave said she brought him to life and he taught her how to live it. Their friendship spans 28 years and the last seven and a half years were their greatest adventures together. They loved hard and they lived hard and they laughed hard, and the experiences they shared together added up to a lifetime. They share a rare and unique bond between them and their grandson Hudson that will live on through Hudson.
Dave was blessed with four bonus children: Makenzee, Kambree, Brynlee, and Jonah, whom he loved as his own, and he strived to have a unique relationship with each of them. We are all so grateful that Dave was able to be a Papa to Hudson, and we know that Papa will continue to put turtles on the end of Huddy’s fishing pole, just like he did on Sunday.
We love you deeply and we miss you terribly but there is comfort in knowing “you’ve gone fishin’.” P.S. We all expect the Utah Utes to win the national football championship now that you are coaching them. 7:12
Dave is survived by his wife Canesa, children Jake (Gi) Passey, Courtney (Evan) Kitchen, Jaxon Passey, his bonus children Makenzee (Queston) Newbold, Kambree, Brynlee, and Jonah Rowley and his best bud and little shadow, grandson Hudson Blake Holt, as well as his stepdaughter Adi, his bonus mom Judy Passey, and his sisters Linda (Brian) Walker, Diane (Jay) Jensen and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A viewing will be held on September 9, 2022 from 11-12 with a funeral to follow from 12:30 to 1:30pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1176 North 730 East, Pleasant Grove, UT 84062. Graveside to follow the service on the same day at the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery, 500 North 100 West St, Pleasant Grove, UT 84062.
