David Eldridge Smalley's Obituary
David Eldridge Smalley, 71, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, in South Jordan, Utah, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 27, 1954, in Walnut Creek, California, Dave lived a life marked by dedication, resilience, and deep affection for his family and friends. His journey through life was one of hard work, adventure, and unwavering support for those around him.
Dave devoted over 35 years to a single company—a testament to his loyalty and work ethic. He began his career as a welder, where his exceptional ability to repair anything quickly caught the attention of management. Recognizing his talent and problem-solving skills, he was promoted to service technician and relocated to California. Just two years later, he rose again to become the parts and service manager and was moved back to Utah. In that role, Dave worked tirelessly to coordinate his team’s schedules, assist customers over the phone with technical issues, and ensure the parts department ran smoothly. His commitment to excellence and his team made him a respected and beloved figure among his coworkers.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dave was a man who thrived in the great outdoors. He found joy in hiking, camping, ATV riding, knee boarding, and wakeboarding. One of his most cherished traditions was captaining a houseboat on Lake Powell each year for family and friends—a time filled with laughter, adventure, and connection. His love for nature extended into countless camping trips across varied landscapes—from ocean shores to forested trails and sandy dunes.
In 2018, Dave was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. In response, he and his loved ones embraced life more fully than ever before. Together they traveled extensively—to Mexico, Costa Rica, Antigua, Hawaii—and embarked on numerous month-long trailer trips. Among all these adventures, the Virgin Islands held a special place in Dave’s heart. Snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters around St. John with family and friends brought him immense joy, except for losing his prized moustache that had to be shaved for the mask!
As his condition progressed and travel became more difficult, Dave moved into a memory care center where he received compassionate support from Bristol hospice staff and caregivers who came to adore him. Even as words became fewer in his final months, Dave’s humor remained—his unexpected one-liners continued to bring smiles and laughter to those around him.
Dave is survived by his devoted wife Jenette Smalley; daughters Melinda Sensenstein and Stacey Reynolds; son-in-law Kye Reynolds; grandchildren Cameron Gunn, Courtney Shoell, Christian Sensenstein, Kolby Reynolds, Jayden Reynolds, Mercedes Reynolds, Makenzee Reynolds; sister Donna Rayburn; and brother Jon Smalley. He was preceded in death by his parents Doris and Ed Smalley; brother William Smalley; and sister Gayle Smalley. His love extended beyond people to his beloved dog, Jack, who brought him constant companionship and happiness.
Dave will be remembered for his boundless generosity, quick wit, remarkable craftsmanship, and steadfast love for those around him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
