To Carole and the Stevens Family,
Dave and Carole welcomed me in the summer of 2011. Eleven years later, during my last visit to SLC, I took the opportunity to visit them again and share a special moment at church and over lunch.
Dave was an amazing host. He always shared wonderful memories and stories from his many trips outside the United States. I will always remember Dave and Carole waking me up the morning after my very late arrival in SLC to say, “Get ready — we’re going to church.”
I couldn’t refuse. It was my first introduction to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. What a great honor it was to have known Dave.
Dave and Carole have always been like a second family to me, sending New Year and birthday wishes over the years.
Today, I find comfort in believing that Dave is now going back to Jesus, whom he faithfully followed throughout his life.
My deepest condolences go first to Carole, and to Natasha, Emily, Joshua, Susie, and Mandy.

My favorite memory of Dave was playing board games well into the early hours of the morning with him, Carol, Mandi, and my brothers Nick and Alex in the weeks leading up to Mandi & Nick’s wedding. He taught us how to play Ticket to Ride, And It Came to Pass, and Settlers of Catan. To this day, any time I play those games I think of Dave & Carol.
I also remember the homemade peach ice cream and lemon meringue pie he shared with us. Having never had those desserts they were very memorable.
Even though he was my brother’s father in law, he treated me as family. Most notably when I introduced my husband to him and Carol they were overjoyed to meet him. It felt like I was introducing my husband to an extension of my family. Their warmth was infectious and my husband immediately loved them.
What I appreciated most about Dave was his youthful heart and genuine nature. He was a great man and truly an inspiration. He will be missed dearly.
