David Edward Wilson's Obituary
David Edward Wilson
The Grandfather of All Things
August 18, 1942 - July 17, 2022
David Edward Wilson, 79, passed away on July 17, 2022, at his home in Sandy, Utah. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
David was born in Provo, Utah on August 18, 1942, to Jess David and Ruby Hair Wilson. He graduated from Provo High School where he was editor of the school paper. He then attended Brigham Young University where he graduated with a degree in English literature. Later he received a master’s degree of library science from BYU.
The love of his life was his wife Glenna Holland Wilson. They married in Provo on November 23, 1963. Their marriage was sealed in the Jordan River Temple in 1993. They have been united for 58 years and have four children. They have spent most of their married life in Sandy, Utah. He was very attentive and loving to Glenna.
He was employed with the Salt Lake County Library System for 35 years and retired as the director. He loved books, was an avid reader and had a wonderful library in his home. He had a unique collection of special editions of the Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens.
David loved spending time camping with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting and fishing all of his life, especially with his sons. He and Glenna created a wonderful sanctuary at their cabin in Panorama Woods, near Fairview, Utah. His family will forever remember fun times there, especially their annual cousin camps. David loved his family dearly and always made them his top priority. He could often be found on the floor playing toy cars or having tea parties with his young grandkids, or supporting them at their many events.
David was an author and self-published several books including the beloved series, “The Adventures of Percy Fitz.” He also wrote short stories and an auto biography. He was a masterful storyteller and claimed that all of his stories were “mostly true.” He will forever be remembered for his story, “The Night Daddy Shot Santa Claus,” which he told every Christmas.
David highly valued education and insisted his children attend and graduate from college. It seemed he knew a little bit about everything. He could fix nearly anything or modify things to make them useable. He gave generous and thoughtful gifts to his family.
David was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held the office of high priest. He served a senior service mission at the Utah Sandy Employment Resource Center from 2015-2017, and loved helping people find work.
He is survived by his wife Glenna, his sons David (Laura), Darren (Mary) and Jeff (Jen) Wilson, a daughter Julie (Troy) Thomson, 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law, sisters Debbie Chatterley and Angie Curtis, and a beloved cousin Rick Cope.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Jordan 4th Ward, 235 E. 9800 S. Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the same location. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery, 1520 N. 800 E. Orem.
