David Arthur Young's Obituary
David Arthur Young passed away on February 28, 2025.
Born on April 25, 1938, in Columbus Ohio to Colby Weeks Young and Winifred Marion Scates. He was the second of three sons. Dave graduated from Shaker Heights High School. He attended the University of Miami Ohio for one year. He moved to Provo Utah where he was welcomed by his Aunt Ellen Young Allen and her family. He Graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Political Science. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint in the Gulf States. He went on to get a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Utah. This is where he met LeNore Thackery with whom he married and had three children, (they later divorced). His early years in social work were in Price Utah where he worked for Four Corner’s Mental Health. He went on to work for the State of Utah Social Services for several decades. This is where he met his wife, Sharon.
He was known for his kindness and generosity and cared deeply for his children and those he was able to serve during his time in social services. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He liked to ski and passed that on to his children. He played football as a teen and continued to enjoy watching the sport. He was an avid reader and enjoyed collecting non-fiction books.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Sharon (Mullen Westlund); children Ryan (Shauna) Young and their children Jayson and Marshall, Robert (Karyn) Young and their children Nathan (Miriam), Justin (Sam) and Ashley (fiancé Fin), Laura Franke and her children Devin (Heather), Jordan (Megan), Tom Westlund, Chris Elliot (Brian) and daughter Audrey, Don Westlund (Amber) and children Zoe, Gus and Henry and Brother Stephen (Mark) Young. Preceded in death by his parents Colby and Winifred and brother Robert Buenos (Mary K) Young of Centerville OH.
