Dawn Marie Astel's Obituary
On a beautiful Easter afternoon April 24 2011, our beloved angel returned to the presence of her Heavenly Father. At last, rid of the chains of pain and torment, she is now serving a greater mission.
Dawn Marie Astel, 46, was born June 19, 1964 in Phoenix Arizona, the daughter of Andrew and Peggy Anderson. She was raised in Scottsdale Arizona. Dawn had a special, loving spirit . She served for 15 years as a CNA at the Veterans Administration as well as other convalescent homes. She loved helping people. She moved to Utah in 1995 where she used her sharp sense of organization and impeccable work ethic as Human Resource Manager and later, Operations Manager for Shopko. Dawn was a manager at Bed Bath and Beyond, Alpine School District and then her dream job at Telos Residential Treatment Center. She thoroughly loved the boys she helped, as well as the staff that she worked with.
Dawn found the love of her life, and was married to her eternal companion Brian William Astel on May 10, 2003, in the Salt Lake Temple. Their love for each other was beyond description, soul mates in the truest sense of the word. Their greatest joy was simply being together. Dawn loved all the beauties of this earth. Her love for animals was unrivaled. She enjoyed camping, needlepoint, and was a whiz at puzzles. Her greatest joy was spending time with family. She held several church callings, but her favorite was her sweet little CTR's. Dawn attended UVU earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Science. It was extremely important for her to make the Deans list, and succeeded every quarter. We are so proud of her. What an amazing woman.
Dawn very reluctantly leaves behind her husband Brian William Astel, son Jared (Cortney)Astel, daughter Rachel Astel and her grandson,"little teapot" Carden Michael Astel. Also parents Andrew and Peggy Anderson, brothers Steve (Laurie)Anderson, John (Judy) Anderson, Tod Anderson. Her other special set of parents Dale and JoAnn Astel as well as many nieces and nephews. One of the last things that Dawn said was, " I get to go be with Jesus". Dawn, we love you beyond words. You will be missed beyond measure. The only comfort we receive is by knowing that we will be together again. You have left a huge hole in our lives that cannot be replaced, but we rejoice that you are no longer suffering. God be with you till we meet again.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Friday, April 29, 2011 at the Suncrest 4th Ward Chapel, 190 North 800 West, Orem, Utah with a viewing Thursday at the church from 6 to 8 pm and Friday one hour prior to services. Interment in the Orem City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Dawn has requested donations be sent to Human Society of Utah.
