Dawna Lee Van Gundy's Obituary
Dawna Lee Van Gundy, a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the age of 69. Born on February 28, 1956, in Salt Lake City, Dawna spent her life rooted in faith, family, and quiet strength.
She is preceded by her mother, Adeline Lazenby and her father, Jay Laverl Worsely. She is survived by her loving husband, David Leist Van Gundy, and her two children, Megan Dawn Van Gundy and Michael David Van Gundy, who were the light of her life. She also leaves behind her cherished siblings—William Jay Worsley, John Thomas Worsley, Mary Charlene Coombs, and Adeline Verla Grayum. Dawna and David were married civilly on November 6, 1982, and later sealed as a family in the Jordan River Temple on November 21, 1987, for time and for all eternity.
Dawna worked as a secretary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and later as a skilled medical transcriptionist. In both roles, she was known for her dedication, care, and professionalism.
In earlier days, Dawna found joy in simple, memorable moments—spending time with her family, going camping, hiking in Utah’s mountains, and visiting the shooting range with bows and arrows in hand. These weekends created a foundation of love and laughter that her children will always treasure.
She was the heart of her home—always there to comfort, lead, and guide with gentleness and wisdom. She embodied all that it means to be a mother. Her unwavering testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ was her anchor through life’s hardest moments. Even in her final days, her faith remained strong, and she found peace in the knowledge that the Lord would soon bring her home.
Her legacy is one of quiet strength, deep love, and enduring faith.
A memorial service will be held on July 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chevy Chase Ward building, located at 5235 S Wesley Rd., Murray, UT 84117. A luncheon for the family will follow the service.
