In the fall of 1975 Delwin and Katheryn Pond sponsored my family to Salt Lake City. We were refugees from Vietnam , The Ponds had read about Vietnamese refugees being place in military camps throughout the United States awaiting sponsorship from different organizations to help with relocation. Upon reading about this problem, Delwin and Katheryn selflessly gave of their time, their finances to be sponsors and help provide food, clothing, housing and so many other services for my family those first years in America. The Ponds have blessed the lives of countless people from all over the world.
50 years have passed since we arrived in Salt Lake City. Our love, gratitude and respect for Delwin and his family increases with every passing year. My father is several months younger than Delvin, both men came from different parts of the world, with different cultures, believes, and became the best of friends and loved each other as brothers. In their later years, Delwin, Katheryn and my parents served a mission together in Cambodia and were very successful, which later opened up opportunities for missionary work to be done in Vietnam. In his life time Delwin Pond followed the Master’s teachings, he was the father to the fatherless, a friend to the friendless, a defender to all those who were less fortunate, he clothed the naked, fead the hungry, and he did it with love, humility, and respect for all of Gods children. The world lost a great man, we love our UNCLE Del and know he is with his parents and siblings, all of whom we are grateful to, because they gave us the best of themselves in Delvin Pond.
