Dear Heggem Family,
When I came to BYU over ten years ago, Dennis welcomed me as a friend and colleague. Even as I, he wanted to see this adventurous path we had started down through to success. We were both so busy at that juncture that all of our conversations were brief and work oriented, as we tried to make sure there was cohesion between our two modules. In the last couple of years I was able to hear briefly about his growing up in Washington, about his conversion and mission, of the love he had for his family, and he had indicated there were miracles that were too sacred to share. Because I know him as a truthful person, I do not doubt him. Dennis was a wonderful colleague, and I consider him a friend. I have great hope in the promises of the resurrection and the blessings promised to those who are valiant in their testimony. Those blessings and promises are worth every effort that we can put forth in this life to be worthy through baptism as the first ordinance, as demonstrated by the Savior, and through continued repentance, which provides the possibility for the grace that comes through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ. None of us is perfect, but the love and grace of the Savior are immutable facts in a world of mortal and moral weakness, and the path is laid before if we will follow Jesus. Dennis reminds me of one who was trying to be like Jesus, trying to love as he did, trying to love his neighbor, trying to serve his friends (and others).
Thank you, we love him, we love you.
