I remember a Sunday several years ago when Bishop MacKay was serving as Bishop. I frequently travelled for work and sometimes found myself home late on Saturday with another flight to catch early Monday. The neighbors across the street were away on a two week adventure and their grass looked like hay needing a cutting. I fretted Sunday morning on when would be the best time to not be seen cutting the grass and would still allow sufficient time to shower and attend my own scheduled meetings on Sunday. As I was about five minutes into cutting a car slowly approached, the window came down, and a confused look was on Bishop MacKay’s face - why would HE be cutting the grass on Sunday!? I was serving as the Stake Clerk at the time… Bishop MacKay smiled and gave me a thumbs up as he drove away. Dennis would do the same and serve anyone at anytime. My dad frequently noted - “the better the day, the better the deed.”
Dennis was an absolute delight to be around. A practical man and a spiritual giant. We love the MacKay family!
