Deone Pearce's Obituary
Deone Pearce passed Sunday January 12, 2025 with family by her side at Raintree Assisted Living in Syracuse, Ut at the age of 88.
She was born at home in Erda, Ut with her grandmother as midwife on February 2, 1936 to Harvey Taylor Gillespie and Melba Afton Weyland. Deone attended school in Tooele, Ut before moving with her family to Maryland and El Paso, Texas where she met and married J. Neil Hunsaker. After raising their kids, they later divorced.
Mama took pride in her work as a school lunch cook. She looked forward to each new school year because it gave her new “littles” to adopt. When she retired from Davis County School District she missed those kids immensely.
Deone loved her family and would take every opportunity to spend time with them. She loved hitching rides in her brother Paul’s semi just for the extra laughs and memories. We’re not sure how he ever made his deliveries on time with all those pit stops but he said it was so worth it.
If you were family or friend of Mama, you’ve most likely been to Wendover with her. She was a hoot sitting at her slots squealing with each win no matter how big or small. It devastated her when she was no longer able to endure the ride out there.
Deone is survived by her siblings; Douglas (Sandra) Gillespie (AZ), Paul Gillespie (Ut), and Barbara (Terry) Pollard (WY) and her daughters; Kathryn (Robert) Thomas (Syracuse, Ut), Geneil (Fred) Tanner (Layton, Ut), and Denine Sullivan (Clearfield, Ut). She is also survived by six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Deone was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, son Kelly, Grandsons Sean and Braden, and infant great granddaughter Hope.
For such a fragile woman, we are in awe of your strength! You endured so much to ensure our family was solid. Thanks for this mama. You made your mark, and in your most silent days, you were louder than ever. We all appreciate the love you gave each one of us and will carry that along with the memories we shared. Farewell for now Mama…we’ll see you soon.
The family has decided that a celebration of her life be held at a later date at her favorite place Wendover. We’re sure she’d be absolutely tickled for this gathering.
We would like to thank the loving staff at Raintree Assisted Living for taking such amazing care of Deone as well as the staff from Inspiration Hospice Care.
