To Devans family,
Devan was an amazing young man. I’ll loved having him in my class in 5th grade. He was such a kind and thoughtful young man. He made this world a better place. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.❤️

We miss you so much! Your silly monkeys miss their favorite uncle! Your little man and wife will always have us. Maverick misses you too, we'll complete your mission for that you had for him. I can't wait for the day we're all reunited again. I hope you're eating all the pepperoni sandwiches and tootsie rolls your heart desires! We'll have the best firework show Heaven will ever see one day! Love you 💚

Gone to Soon..

This was a time when our zone went on a hike in Fredericksburg for P-day. Elder Rogers, or “Grelder” (a nickname given to him in the MTC) was always so positive and fun to be around. He made every activity so fun and made everyone feel good. He was always making jokes and trying to help all around him feel excited. He had a way of sharing thoughts that made it feel so much more personal to each individual. Sometimes people share things in an extravagant way, but Elder Rodgers would make say things that felt more real and individualistic. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Many thoughts and prayers will be going out to his family and loved ones!
Devan (Elder Rogers to us) served with my wife and I in the Texas San Antonio Mission. I will remember his smile and his love for others. I came across this photo of a day the mission served at a Food Bank in Austin, packaging almost 9,000 meals that day. You will find Devan’s smiling face in the center of the photo, capturing his joy in serving others. He is surrounded by his fellow missionaries, who along with my wife and I, grieve with the Rogers family.
My favorite memory of our Devi is we were all at a birthday party or picnic for someone in his family, I think. I took a picture of Micah (his older brother) and him together, then decided to get one of each of them separately. After I took the single pictures, Devan raised his arms up like he was hugging someone and smiled and said, “Together, together.” So, I took another one of them together. My second favorite memory was when Devan found out he was going to be a father. He rarely called me, since he usually passed news to me through his mother. But, he called me with the news they were expecting. I knew he had to be so happy to want to tell me himself.
I could write for days about all the memories I have a Devan, but I’ll just share a few of my favorites here. Devan was the first person I met in the 12th ward. It was our first Sunday there, I had just sat down with my family in the pew and Devan came over and asked me to help the young men pass the sacrament. I was caught a little off-guard but happy to help and it began a long friendship with Devan and years of service alongside the young men. Shortly after we moved in, I was called into Young Men’s.
Devan was undoubtedly the most outgoing and most rambunctious boy in the group. I took great pleasure in throwing him off the tube behind my boat when he said that he was unbeatable. I’d often have to get after him for telling inappropriate jokes. When he came home from his mission, he served in Young Men’s for a minute. Now when he shared one of his jokes, not only was I able to laugh at it, but I also got to share some of my own with him. (Don’t worry, Cathy. They weren’t too bad)
We were on our High Adventure in Central Utah hiking slot canyons and other cool stuff shortly after his first date with Cassie. The boy was smitten. I hiked up and down several slot canyons with Devan right underneath my feet, practically tripping over him at least fifty times. The whole time we were down there, he wouldn’t stop talking about this girl that he swore to me he was going to marry.
My heart aches for you, Wally, Cathy and the rest of the Rogers family. He was a great young man and he will be missed. Until we meet again, Devan.

One of the most treasured memories I have of my precious boy was when he got off his mission and I ran to him at the airport and he hugged me so tight, said I love you and then said, mama you’re so short now😭😭😭💔💔💔my heart is so broken without him here😭😭😭💔💔💔
