Dickson Lee Looney's Obituary
Dickson Lee Looney peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father and to many awaiting friends and loved ones, on June 12, 2011. Dickson was born to Charles Lee Looney and Betty Sue Woodley on June 3, 1952. He grew up in Dallas, Texas and Norfolk, Virginia. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1972 and settled in Utah in February of 1976. He met the love of his life, Ellen Gaye Fenn, and they were married for time and all eternity on September 30, 1976 in the Salt Lake Temple. The two raised a daughter, Stacee Elizabeth (Looney) Gutierrez of Lehi, Utah, and son, Brian James Looney of Salt Lake City, Utah. The family resided in Ogden, Utah and Pocatello, Idaho where his wife passed away in 1992. Dickson worked hard all of his life in various industries— his favorite positions being a watchmaker and a teacher. Mr. Looney graduated from Idaho State University with a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Deaf Education. Dickson was known for his gentle humility, genuine kindness, and dedication to serving others. He enjoyed reading, writing, family history, collecting postage stamps, and spending time with his family. He was a loving and kind father and husband, a loyal son and brother, a shoulder to cry on for many friends, and an adored grandfather. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ellen, one sister, Tamera Sue Looney, one brother, Patrick Randolph Spurgeon and his father, Charles Lee Looney. Dickson is survived by his devoted mother, Betty Sue Woodley, two brothers, Daniel Charles Looney and Raymond Robert Hartley of Virginia, his loving children and three wonderful grandchildren. The family wishes to especially thank the wonderful people from IHC Hospice Care and the medical staff at American Fork IHC hospital for the kindness and care shown to Dickson and his family throughout his illness. A viewing will be held at 9:45AM on Thursday, June 23rd at the LDS chapel located at 413 N West Capitol Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84103— funeral services being held immediately following at 11:00AM. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery at 1342 E 500 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84102
