Dixie Lee Powell Davis' Obituary
Dixie Lee (Powell) Davis, age 86, returned to her Heavenly Father’s arms on Feb. 4, 2025, due to natural causes. She was born on Aug. 16, 1938, the daughter of Richard Eldo Powell and Klis (Worley) Powell Baretta. Dixie had one brother, William Eugene Powell.
She met her husband, Briant Leroy Davis, while attending BYU in 1956. She left college to nurture her new family while Briant earned his BS, Masters, and Doctorate degrees, but she was determined to graduate from college herself. Living in Rapid City, SD, she attended classes at South Dakota School of Mines & Technology (where Briant was a professor) and Black Hills State College, then returned to BYU-Provo where she graduated in 1980 while Briant was there on sabbatical, fulfilling her longtime goal. After graduating, she worked as an editor and marketer for her own public relations company, The Preston Connection.
Dixie was a talented woman who enjoyed blessing the lives of others. A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in various capacities, including Young Women’s teacher and president, Relief Society teacher and president, chorister, organist and pianist, family history consultant, etc. She loved attending the temple, doing genealogy work, and organizing family reunions.
Dixie was preceded in death by her mother, Klis (Worley) Baretta; her father, Richard Eldo Powell; and her son, Briant LeRoy Davis Jr. Surviving family members include her ex-husband Briant L. Davis Sr., her brother, William Eugene Powell (Carolyn), Julia Audretch, Laurence Jeffrey Davis (Anita), and Jennifer D. Lerud (Steven), along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss her greatly.
Interment is at Orem City Cemetery, 1520 N. 800 E. in Orem, UT.
