Dixie Ann Watkins Foote's Obituary
Dixie Ann Watkins Foote, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away unexpectedly on June 15, 2025. Dixie was born in Murray, UT on September 4, 1937, to Clyde T. Watkins and Florence L. Amundsen Watkins. She married the love of her life Melvin O. Foote on March 5, 1960, in the Manti LDS Temple.
After graduating from Murray High School, Dixie joined a group from BYU, traveling across the country by bus to participate in the Hill Cumorah Pageant in New York. She worked for Continental and Walker Banks as a teller until her second child was born and then the family moved to California. Upon the family’s return to Utah, she worked for the IRS and then at Hill Air Force Base as an executive secretary for several of the military leadership team. She was voted HAFB Secretary of the Year and was sent to Washington DC to receive her award. She retired in 1992 after 21 years of service. After her beloved husband passed away, she began her service in the Temple twice a week, a place where she always felt at home, made life-long friends, and deepened her relationship with her Heavenly Father. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served with great devotion in the Ogden, UT Temple as an ordinance worker for 9 years and was recently set-apart to serve in the Syracuse, UT Temple. She also served for many years in the Primary, the Scouting program and as a teacher in Relief Society. Mom loved gardening and her roses were legendary. She was a skilled tole-painter and crocheted amazing doilies, ornaments, stuffed animals and afghan blankets for her family. She was an expert seamstress and made her children clothing including designer jeans and coats. She was a wonderful cook and followed the example of her mother, rarely using a recipe, especially when making gravy or pie crusts. The family has fond memories of weekend road trips all over California and Utah, celebrating holidays and birthdays with loved ones, and playing extremely competitive card games. She loved walking every morning, rain or shine, with her dear friends. Dixie is survived by her children, Debra Xavier Abercrombie, Layton; Gary (Kelli) Foote, Bishop, GA; Stephen, (Rita) Foote, Kaysville; Mark (Michelle) Foote, Roy. She is also survived by two sisters, Darlene Halladay and Diana Hawkes, and a brother Dale Watkins. She also had nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, with one on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mel, her parents, her brother, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and a grandchild. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Windsor Meadows 2nd Ward Chapel, 315 Chelemes Way, 2200 South, Clearfield, Utah. A viewing for family and friends will be held Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the same location and on Monday, prior to the funeral, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Internment, Larkin Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy.
