Don Gardner Widdison
Don Gardner Widdison died at his home on July 15, 2017 at the age of 94. He was born on June 10, 1923 to Lillian and James G. Widdison, Jr. at the family home in Hooper, Utah.
Don was raised on a farm in Hooper with his six sisters and four brothers. He attended Weber County Schools and graduated from Weber High School where he participated in music and sports. He continued his education by taking classes in farm management from Utah State University.
On February 7, 1945 he married Virginia Allen in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Soon after their marriage Don was drafted into in the U.S. Army and served in the Middle East Command in World War II. Upon his return, Don and Virginia built their dream home and raised six children on their dairy farm. He also participated in community life and sold real estate.
Don loved to work. In addition to his dairy farm he was most happy when he had a project to plan and complete. He enjoyed woodworking, cement finishing and erecting lots of buildings on the farm.
Don was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities over the years.
Don and Virginia are the parents of six children: Ginnie Robertson, Laura Sawyer, Barbara (David) Johnson, Jeff (Laurel) Widdison, Sue (Doug) King and Kim (Ben) Shaffer, all of whom survive him along with 18 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Dawson.
Preceded in death by his beloved Virginia, a granddaughter Sarah King and Dan Sawyer, a son-in-law.
A viewing for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the LDS Meetinghouse at 5375 South 5900 West in Hooper, Utah. Another viewing will be held on Thursday, July 20th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., with a funeral to follow at 11:00 at the same building. Interment will follow at the Hooper Cemetery.
