Donald “Pat” Holbrook
Don passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 7, 2022 in Sandy, Utah. He was born on March 17, 1930 to Lafayette and Annaleas Halverson Holbrook in Chesterfield Idaho.
He grew up in a loving home with his siblings; Joe, Allene, Lafe Jr., Trieste, Annabell, Bud and Jacquelyn. He was the 6th of 8 children. He loved spending time with his father fishing, hunting and collecting bum lambs to bring home and bottle feed. Don believed his family had the finest farm in Chesterfield.
He was well educated and valued his experiences in the North Gem School district, Utah State and Snow College. He graduated with 2 degrees and used them both as a teacher, coach, pharmacist and medical supply inventor.
Don was drafted into the Army in 1952 and after basic training was assigned to the Intelligence division. He served two years in Baltimore Maryland during the Korean War.
He married Yvonne Despain in 1950, later divorced and Diane Dangerfield in 1970 later divorced.
He has many life-long friends that he loved and respected. His favorite pastime was fishing with his brothers and friends or family. He knows every good fishing hole from Alaska to Colorado to Idaho and Utah. He loved watching sports, coaching little league, playing golf, skiing, and telling fish stories. He enjoyed good music, lays potato chips, Honey Nut Cheerios with chocolate milk, peach ice tea, Clamato, wild Idaho huckleberries, chokecherries, sharp cheddar cheese, buttery popcorn, ice cream, smoked salmon, stout onions, pepperoni pizza with green peppers, molasses taffy and driving a shiny new Lincoln Continental. He had many adventures in the motor home, at super bowls, and Alaska fishing trips.
Don became the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Deseret Pharmaceutical in Sandy, Utah. He was the co-inventor of top medical products. His inventions continue to be used in hospitals today. Most notable; the EZ scrub, Angiocath and disposable surgical masks. He loved his sales force and was very successful in his career. His pharmaceutical knowledge and management style was a great asset to the company.
He is survived by his sisters; Annabell Rousselot, Jacquelyn Schroeder, (Dale)
and his children; Jon (Christine) Draper, Lisa (Wayne), South Jordan, Amy Sue (Mark) Draper, Chrissy (Keith) Taylor, Jayme, Clinton and Angie, Cabo San Lucas.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Alene, Lafe Jr, Bud, Joe and Trieste, son in law Bryan Van Valkenburg and his treasured grandchildren Normandy and Houston. Don has 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
We will miss his positive attitude, happy disposition; peaceful state of mind and with the passing of time may even miss his fish stories. He always said he had the best life he could imagine and a satisfied mind.
Memorial services for Don will be held 1:00 pm,, Saturday, May 28, 2022 at the historic church in Chesterfield, Idaho. His burial will follow the service.
