Donald Leigh McCarty's Obituary
Donald Leigh McCarty died Monday, 11 October 2010, in the home of his son Bruce, in Orem Utah of advanced Parkinson’s disease. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, 6 October 1928, one of three sons born to Emerson and Amy McCarty, Don was preceded in death by older brother Emerson Jr. A graduate of the University of Utah, Don was a successful elementary school teacher until his retirement, a career that he maintained from the Wasatch Mountains, to the South Pacific Island of Samoa, (a short stay in Hawaii) and Southern California. A dedicated and caring father, he worked second jobs and seasonal work to provide the highest standard he could for his children. Devoted in his faith, he was a missionary to the Eastern States Mission in his youth and served 7 missions with his wife in retirement. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Effie, his children Donald Jr., Jeffery, Bruce, Kenneth, and Linda, 18 grand children and 7 great grandchildren, his brother Daryl (Helen) McCarty. Don will be laid to rest at a Private Family graveside service Saturday, 16 October.
