Donald "Bud" Carlyle Meriwether's Obituary
On September 30, 2019 Donald “Bud” Carlyle Meriwether passed away after battling a lengthy, courageous battle with cancer. Determined, brave and never complaining, Don continued his life hugging his grandkids and hurling advice to his sons. He was born on May 20, 1946 to Vera Houtz and Donald C. Fotheringham. He was raised by Vera and Marvin Meriwether protecting and teasing 4 sisters, Kaye, Judy, Carma and Gayle. He married Gro Minde and had 3 children, tragically losing a 7 month old daughter, Tiffany Ann. Gro and Don were later divorced.
Don later married Camille Aamodt on November 14, 1996. They were sealed in the Bountiful Temple April 16, 1999. Together, Don and Camille shuffled through 23 years as though being custom bowling balls rolling down a padded lane. “We always bounced back!”
Don is survived by his wife, Camille who cared for him until his last breath. Sons: Patrick (Melissa), Derek, Jeff (Mindy), and Aaron (Sheena), 1 step-daughter, Jessica Melton (Dave), 12 Grandkids, and 6 Greats. He leaves behind his sisters, Kaye (Von), Judy (Dennis), Carma and Gayle, and a grundle of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Tiffany Ann.
An all-around kind of guy, he served in the Army and Utah National Guard where he learned his career trade as a Journeyman Diesel Mechanic. His last place of work was Intermountain Slurry Seal where he enjoyed traveling, trouble shooting, and maintaining vast pieces of road equipment to support the road crew. He gravitated toward any kind of physical labor or hobbies that required great strength.
Don was a private, independent type of guy and was able to embellish a story or life experience leaving all wondering if it were really true. Don enjoyed keeping his wife “in line”, 4-wheeling, hunting, fishing, camping, and was an awesome cook. He truly loved all his family and treated Camille’s sons as his own. Don’s favorite place to enjoy nature, camp and adventure was Rock Creek Ranch where he spent a lot of time as a youth. He watched the Upper Still Water Dam being constructed, grazed sheep and cattle on the ranch and caught tons of fish at the reservoir and spent countless hours fixing up, mending, and working at the ranch. He shared many memories with the Meriwether Family during this time.
Don became an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In conversations with Camille, he always maintained that he was happier after realizing that following the gospel plan and living the commandments brought him the most happiness. He served a service mission at the Kaysville Bishop’s Storehouse. Don really enjoyed indexing, completing thousands of names for temple work. He will be remembered for loving all of us, his blue eyes, smile and physical strength. We will miss your hugs, Don…they were amazing.
Camille and family wish to thank Adagio-Dignity Hospice, specifically Rosemary, Lisa, Tina, Justin and Jon for caring, aiding and guiding them through this process.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 4th at 11:00 a.m. at the Mutton Hollow Chapel, 855 East Mutton Hollow Road, Layton. Don will be buried in Farmington City Cemetery at a later date.
