Donna Lou Corrigan's Obituary
Obituary for Donna Lou Corrigan
August 5, 1937 - June 24, 2023
Surrounded by loved ones, Donna Lou Corrigan, age 85, passed away on June 24, 2023, in Durango, Colorado due to a short illness while on a family camping trip. An only child, she was born to Margretta Harris and Rulon Pitkin Hansen on August 5, 1937 in Los Angeles, California. She spent most of her life in the area, with a five year move to Santa Paula, California and another five years in Salinas, California due to her husband’s last ten years of employment.
Donna met her future husband Jim when he came to speak in a church meeting in her area. She nudged her friend and asked, “Who is that?” She begged to be introduced and the rest is history as they say. While Donna knew right off the bat that Jim was the guy for her, it took Jim a little longer (two dates to be exact) to know Donna was the girl for him. They were married in the Los Angeles Temple on January 16, 1959.
Donna loved genealogy work and spent many hours searching for ancestors. She was generous with her time and helped many others with their genealogy as well. She loved serving in various callings in the church throughout her life. She was never one to shy away from service and hard work. She also enjoyed serving as an ordinance worker in the Los Angeles California Temple.
Another of Donna’s loves was the great outdoors. From the time she was a year old, she spent every summer at her beloved Sequoia National Park. She passed that love onto her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Living just an hour away, she also enjoyed many trips to the beach. She was a fantastic cook and anyone who knows her knows she made the best bread on the planet!
Donna is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James Robert Corrigan, her parents Margretta Harris and Rulon Hansen, and several aunts and uncles. She also lost her beloved sisters-in-law Anne Peterson, Carol Consejero, and Cary Corrigan and special best friend/sister Lorale Griffiths.
Donna will be missed by her four children Linda (Reid) Parker, Julie Showaker, David (Denise) Corrigan, Steven Corrigan, 13 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 11777 S Willow Wood Drive, Draper, Utah.
