Donna Young Thomas' Obituary
Donna Young Thomas, 94 of Salt Lake City, Utah passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 23, 2021 after living a long and fruitful life.
Donna was born on September 2nd, 1927 to Alice Berrett Young and Charles Angus Young in Union, Utah. After graduating from Jordan High School in 1944, she waited for her lifelong sweetheart Leo Don Thomas to return from the South Pacific where he was serving in the Navy during World War II. During a liberty call on May 6th, 1946 Donna wed her lifelong love, Leo, in San Diego, CA.
After the “Big War” Leo and Donna started a family and had one child (Kathleen Thomas Dale). As she raised her family in Utah she worked in different industries. She was very proud of her service at I.M.L Freight where she was an executive. She later retired from federal service at the United States Bankruptcy Court.
During her life Donna had many hobbies and interests. Her most notable loves were downhill skinning and sailing at the Great Salt Lake with her lifelong sweetheart, Leo. During their years of sailing, they made many friends at the Great Salt Lake Marina who adored her for her genuine kindness and her sailing ability. Donna shared the love of sailing with her family and made it a point to teach each of her grandchildren to sail.
Donna’s most coveted achievement was her family. She tirelessly and unselfishly provided love and guidance for her beloved daughter Kathleen and her four grandchildren Kim Bowerbank, Mark Dale, Mike Dale, Melissa Terry and several great and great-great grandchildren. It was always Donna’s nature to sacrifice everything she had to put a warm meal in a belly or a smile on a face.
In Donna’s long life she was a constant optimist. If she ever fell on hard times, she possessed the remarkable ability to remain positive and share the spirt of optimism. Her selfless nature touched many lives but most notably her grandchildren who reap the rewards of her lifelong selflessness. To quote Donna “This too shall pass”, provides a glimpse of how she lived and shared her life. In her absence we feel sorrow but rejoice knowing that “This too shall pass”.
She leaves behind her daughter Kathleen, and her four grandchildren Kim Bowerbank, Mark Dale, Michael Dale, and Melissa Terry, 10 great grand children and one great-great grandson.
