Donnie (Donald Raymond) Bonelli's Obituary
Donnie never met a stranger who didn’t soon become a friend. He had a gift for lighting up every room—and every stage—he ever stepped into. A creative soul through and through, Donnie came alive when he was drawing, writing, singing, or making people laugh. A modern troubadour, he always seemed to have the right words for every song and every moment.
Creativity flowed through Donnie in everything he did. His passion for music and art drove him to live a life that was uniquely his own—one not everyone could fully understand, but one that was authentic and beautiful. He was one of the best graphic designers around, an accomplished singer and songwriter, a rapper in the House of Lewis, and an amateur comedian who could make anyone laugh. Donnie used his creativity to bless others—to bring joy, to stir emotion through his music, and to cope with life’s hardships.
He made his mark through song, humor, and compassion. Even in the face of cancer, Donnie’s optimism and determination were contagious. Though he faced many challenges and spent the last year of his life in a nursing home, he continued to advocate for others—especially those who couldn’t advocate for themselves—and built friendships with the nursing staff and fellow residents.
The hole in our hearts will never be filled, but we take comfort in knowing that Donnie’s body is finally at peace after a long, courageous fight.
Donnie is survived by his mother, Tina Bonelli; sisters, Elizabeth Galindo and Lianna Escaño; brothers-in-law, Roberto Galindo and Hamlet Escaño; and his beloved niece and nephews—Oliver, Isaac, Dante, Daphne, and Darian. He is also survived by countless friends who became family, many of whose children lovingly called him “Uncle Donnie, too.”
He was preceded in death by his father, Rick Bonelli, and his dear friend, “Big” Sal Olivas.
A celebration of life will be held on November 1, 2025. Details will be shared soon.
