Donovan Denshiro Niitsuma's Obituary
Donovan Denshiro Niitsuma, 69, was born on August 22, 1952 to Harry and Virginia Niitsuma in San Benito, Texas. He was the oldest of 8 kids.
After he moved to Salt Lake City, he attended South High School where he spent 3 years in the ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps.) and graduated as captain. He then served active duty in the Navy until June 1974. He was released from active duty as a Naval Petty Officer, 3rd class, and served 2 more years in the reserves.
In 2019, he retired from his 20+ year career at the post office. He loved his job and enjoyed going the extra mile. For some of his elderly customers, who expressed sadness they did not receive any mail, he would sign them up for recurring catalogs to make their day. He had a natural tendency to care for those around him. Shortly after retirement, he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and fought that for the last 1 ½ years of his life.
His greatest joys were his 3 kids (Sarah, Donny and Danielle (Justus)), 2 grandkids (Zeniyah and Zion), with one on the way, and his 2 dachshunds (Scarlett and Maddie). His greatest frustrations were the current president and dig dug. His sense of humor and laugh will be greatly missed.
His kids and grandkids have many unforgettable memories of Donovan playing alongside them in water balloon fights, the sprinklers, and playhouses at Jungle Jims.
He was an amazing father, son, uncle, brother, grandfather, cousin, nephew, and neighbor. He will be missed by many.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 22, 12:00 pm at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1342 E. 500 So. Salt Lake City, Utah.
