Dorothy "Dot" Ann Nelson's Obituary
Dorothy A. Nelson “Dot” After quietly battling cancer, our sweet Dot gently passed away in her own home, on Saturday, January 10th, 2015 at 9:55 AM, surrounded by her beloved family.
Born November 12, 1933 in Rolla, Missouri (pronounced Missour –ah) to J. Bruce and Margaret Clemmer, she was the middle sister to Emily (Merle A. Boe) and Cathy (Gary A. Davis).
Growing up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama led to many “Yankee Girl” adventures, tales of her Mammies and the shockingly racially divided south. She had a fun Irish wit and was a great storyteller. As a teenager they moved to Tucson, Arizona where at 18 she met and married our dad, “RC” Rawland C. Nelson, April 12, 1952. They moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in Canyon Rim’s Veteran’s Heights neighborhood where they raised daughter Cheryl (Mario) and Son Rawl (Shelly) and enjoyed 61 years of marriage prior to RC’s death in 2013.
Dot was proud of being a Girl Scout Leader, her work at the University of Utah’s Marriott Library, her grandchildren: Casey (Karin), Jesse (Abby), Tyler (Sara), Colter (Nicole), Gina (Garret) Aimee (John) and as “GG Dot” to her 15 greats: Taya, Alaina, Ryland, Piper, Garron, Allie, Dorothy Renee, Ulson, Everett, Tyson, Jackson, Sophia, Holland, Sawyer and Cortland. She was a super thrift store and Dollar Store shopper and enjoyed her painting classes first taught by her best friend Maxine MacDuff’s husband John and later at the Holladay Senior Center.
Dot and RC were lifetime members of the Methodist Church and loved camping with the Bloomer/Nelson/Clemmer families and the Rolling Phones Telephone Pioneers Camping group.
A family graveside service will be held Friday, January 23, 2015 at 2:30pm at Camp Williams’ Utah State Veterans Memorial Cemetery alongside RC.
We would like to express our gratitude to our family, great neighbors & friends, the ENTIRE fabulous Bristol Hospice Utah team and Premier Funeral Services. Instead of flowers, Dot requested you might do something nice for yourself and somebody else…so Dot! ...Happy Trails…
