Dorothy Marinda Smith Crandall's Obituary
Dorothy Marinda Smith Crandall Obituary
August 4, 2023
Dorothy earned her wings today, surrounded by her four children. Dorothy is where we are all trying to get to one day. So, no need to be sad.
Today we celebrate the impact she had on our lives, her legacy and uplifting sweet spirit.
Dorothy was born November 11, 1928, to Francis and Myrtle Smith in Shelley Idaho. She was the youngest of 13 children.
She grew up in Shelley and attended local schools. She attended college at Utah State, where she graduated in Elementary Education and met the love of her life, Richard Crandall.
They were married on November 3, 1950, in the Idaho Falls temple. They were married 69 years.
They made their home in San Luis Obispo, California and raised four children.
Dorothy taught Kindergarten and 2nd grade. She loved teaching children.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many church positions. One of her favorites was being a Visiting Teacher.
In 1986, after retirement, they moved to Provo, Utah. Here, they built their dream home “the big blue house” where many memories have been made.
Dorothy loved travelling to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Christmas was her favorite holiday. She would spend days decorating her home. It was beautiful.
As a daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, she touched the lives of everyone she met.
Even in our grief, we want to celebrate the amazing life she lived and the love she shared with others.
She is survived by her four children: Debra (Jim) De La Cruz-Boyd, Mollie (Mark) Allen, Beckie (Merrill) McKell, Steven (Jim) Crandall-Wilson. In addition to her four children, she has 9 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her husband (Richard), her parents and 12 siblings.
We would like to thank Legacy Village of Provo for taking such good care of our mother. And a special thanks to Mey Clifford and Cassie Carlson for all their tender loving care of our mother.
