Dorthy Kidman
1922–2017
Our beloved mother and grandmother, Dorthy Gene Hultquist Kidman, 94, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at her home in Provo, Utah.
Born on September 7, 1922, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Bernard Eugene and Ruby Wallace Hultquist and her older sister, Bernice “Bee” Clements, she was preceded in death by her husband, Don Carlos Kidman. They married in Oklahoma City, on September 11, 1944, when Carlos was serving in the Army. On November 21, 1944, they solemnized their marriage in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Survived by her three sons and three daughters: Karl Eugene (Deborah) Kidman, Orem, Utah; Raymond Lynn (Elida) Kidman, Redmond, Utah; Leonel Enrique (Sonia) Kidman, Orem, Utah; Susan (Paul) Sherwood (missionaries in Sierra Leone, Africa); Karen (David) Clements, Provo, Utah; Linda (Dale) Edwards, Meridian, Idaho. She loved 38 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Dorthy stated, “My life has been like a kaleidoscope…the resulting new patterns have always been beautiful.” She worked as a registered nurse in Tremonton, Utah, and Toppenish/Yakima, Washington. With her husband, she later lived in Chile, El Salvador, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, and The Gambia, Africa. They also served a LDS mission together in Cobán, Guatemala. In her Provo neighborhood, the children loved her bowl of candy always at her front door. Her sense of humor, positive outlook, and generosity touched many lives. She is greatly loved and will be missed.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 pm, Friday, September 1, 2017, at the Provo River Ward Chapel, 4775 North 300 West, Provo, Utah. The viewings will be held on Thursday, August 31st, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm and on Friday from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at the church. Interment: Salt Lake City Cemetery.
