Douglas J. Berry's Obituary
Douglas J. Berry, born October 24, 1948, in Pioche, Nevada, to Frank R. and Vera Kehl Berry, passed away July 21, 2012, at his home in Salt Lake City, after courageously facing cancer. He graduated from Highland High School and Utah State University. On August 19, 1969, he married Peggy Brown in Logan, Utah. For 34 years he worked as a train engineer for Union Pacific Railroad and retired in 2008. Doug loved the outdoors, his vegetable garden, building things for his family, and he found humor in the ordinary. He especially loved spending time at the family retreat in Idaho. Living within one's means and helping others were examples he set for his children. Doug was always happy to help a friend. He is survived by his mother, his wife, four children: Jennifer and Scott Knerr, Laramie, WY; Scott and Jennifer Berry, Lake Havasu City, AZ; Marianne and Robert Lee, Longmont, CO; and Michael and Samantha Berry, Roy, UT; 13 delightful grandchildren; and many cherished extended family members. His brother, Warren Keith Berry, and his father preceded him in death. At Doug's request, a family graveside service will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Salt Lake City following cremation. We express our gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Huntsman Cancer Institute and to those at Harmony Hospice and CNS who kindly gave their time and service to Doug and his family.
