Family was the pivotal essence of Doug’s life. He was proud and honored to
be the father and grandfather to his family. He was a great friend to many and you could always find him fixing someone's car or doing another good deed for those he knew and loved. He loved cars. Whether he was under the hood with a wrench, collecting models of his favorite old cars or even walking through car shows for hours, it gave him joy and he could always have a conversation about how much “spark” an engine had or how fast it could go. He was a huge fan of all kinds of music and loved to go dancing. Even in his last days, you could find him humming along with his favorite songs and see that it gave him great joy.
Born on August 22, 1948 in Rupert, Idaho to Arville and Emily Forestine
Firkins, Doug spent his youth growing up in Rupert with his parents and six older siblings. Living in the Burley and Rupert area until 1987 when he moved his family to West Jordan, Utah where he remained for the rest of
his years.
He spent his life as a hardworking, dedicated, faithful and loving man. He had a long-standing and strong relationship with God and was very blessed with his faith to his very last breath.
He was predeceased by his best friend and eternal companion Karen Ileene
Firkins, his parents; Arville and Emily Forestine Firkins. Four brothers; Ray Firkins, Don Firkins, Richard Firkins, and Eugene Firkins. Three sisters; Glenda Nielson, Lorna Firkins and Patsy Firkins, and one grandson Kelly Scott Rucker. He is survived by his five loving children and 14 grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
The family is sincerely grateful to the wonderful staff and hospice nurses
from The Sheridan at South Jordan, who comforted and provided great
care for him in the last few months of his life.
Doug will be forever remembered for his gentle eyes, caring heart, loving
embrace and quirky personality. Although our hearts are heavy, we will
celebrate his life and find comfort that he is in heaven watching over us.
