Douglas Leon Kotter's Obituary
Douglas Leon Kotter passed away at age 47 on Wednesday, September 6th, 2023. He is survived by his wife Angela, their children Matthew, Jonathan, Daniel and Annie, his parents Leon and Sharon, and his siblings Michael (Michelle), Kevin (Lacie), Shelly (Robert), Ed (Veronica), and Lisa (Jared).
Doug was born June 7th, 1976, in Brigham City, Utah and grew up in Howell, Utah. After serving for two years in the Kentucky Louisville Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah. While earning his bachelor’s degree in Math Education, Doug met and married his wife, Angela Minert Kotter, in the Mount Timpanogos LDS Temple. Their son Matthew was born in Logan.
Upon graduation, the family moved to Orem, Utah, where Doug worked as a math teacher and where sons Jonathan and Daniel were born. In 2011 Doug became a software engineer for DHI Computing in Provo, Utah. Soon thereafter Annie was born, completing their family. Doug was dedicated to his family, his church, and his employer. He loved spending time with his family at his parents’ home in Howell or playing games with his children. He was a gentle and caring person. His Church service included callings in the Elder’s Quorum presidency and as a member of the stake high council. Doug was diagnosed with cancer in 2013, and endured countless surgeries, rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, medications and hospitals, but there would be no cure. The family would like to thank the medical professionals for their dedicated efforts to treat Doug, the many friends and ward members who helped for so long, and the compassionate owners and workers at DHI who steadfastly supported Doug throughout his journey.
A viewing will be held on Friday, September 15th from 6-8 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 810 East 600 North in Orem. The funeral will be held the following day at 11am at the same location, with a viewing from 9:00-10:40am before the funeral.
Following the services, Doug will be interred in the Orem Cemetery.
