Douglas George Stever's Obituary
Douglas George Stever was born on September 2, 1950 in Portland, OR as the second child to Robert Roy Stever and Elizabeth Anne (Gubler). Douglas passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family after a short but aggressive battle with cancer on November 19, 2023 in Orem, UT.
Growing up, Douglas enjoyed living in Oregon and California and attended Ricks College. Douglas faithfully served a two year mission in Delaware for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Douglas met Cindy Fay (Campbell) prior to their missions, wrote to each other during their missions, courted after their missions, and married each other on May 28, 1977 in Oakland, CA. They had seven children and Douglas worked hard to provide Cindy and children a stable life. Douglas enjoyed a thriving and entertaining career as a correctional officer at Folsom Prison from 1986 to 2012 and retired after 26 years. Douglas enjoyed what he did and tried to work where and when he could at the prison and even earned a Silver Star for being in the right place at the right time.
Douglas had a fun character where he was constantly telling and perfecting his “dad jokes” and life stories which made nearly everyone laugh. Douglas loved to complete home projects and enjoyed cleaning for fun, especially vacuuming (this man vacuumed his garage floor). You would often find Douglas at the LDS temple or in a family genealogical library serving faithfully or on his motorcycle seeking out new experiences after joining The Temple Riders Association motorcycle club. Douglas enjoyed traveling, visiting his grown children and grandchildren, and learning more about where his family history came from and about war history, especially when his movie star idol John Wayne was a part of it. Douglas loved to donate blood and had been recognized for donating over 51 gallons of blood in his lifetime. Douglas also raised goats and chickens, collected stamps and loved to annoy Cindy with his humor and witty conversation. Douglas thoroughly enjoyed life and really tried to create positivity and happiness wherever he went.
Douglas is survived by his wife Cindy (Campbell); children JoAnne (Phillip Sandoval), Cynthia (Trevor Silvester), Sean (Karen), Christopher, Aaron (Rashell), Matthew, and Joshua (Judy); Siblings with their spouses and children and grandchildren Ronald and Patti (Adam, Ryan, Lisa), Debbie and Rocky Shepard (Erin, Cody, Lara, Jill), and Michael; Grandchildren (JoAnne) Gavin (spouse Brisa), Meagan, Sarah, Adam, and Emily, (Cynthia) Kaylie, Robert, and Joseph, (Sean) Abriel and VeraLynn, (Aaron) Fynn, (Joshua) Éowyn; Great-Grandchildren (Gavin) Dom, Damien; (Meagan) Lylah, Elyas, and many brothers and sisters in-law and nieces and nephews. Douglas is preceded in death by his parents Robert Roy Stever and Elizabeth Anne (Gubler), Aunts and Uncles, and his Grandparents.
A memorial service for both Douglas and Cindy will be held at 11:00 am on April 26, 2024 at 857 West 800 North ~ Orem, Utah.
