Douglas Malcom Williams' Obituary
Dad faithfully endured to the end and returned to his Heavenly Father on January 7, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was a loving husband, dad, papa, brother, uncle and friend. He is now having a joyous reunion with all of his family who preceded him in death.
Dad grew up in Mills Utah. His home was a Union Pacific Railroad Section House with railroad tracks on each side of the home. It was a small house with no running water, plumbing or electricity but was filled with lots of love. When he got older they moved to Nephi.
Dad met his eternal sweetheart, Sandra Allen, at a sand-jumping party. She fell in love with that young man that didn’t drink, smoke or swear, all around handsome great guy. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple February 24, 1965.
Dad was employed at Kennecott Copper Mine for 40 years. When they were on strike, he worked 2-3 jobs to care for his family. He worked at the Salt Lake School District, Cookie Factory and Rocky Mountain Pools. Dad did whatever he had to do to take care of his family. When he retired from Kennecott he worked with Dick Petersen and Richard Wright in landscaping.
Dad loved hunting and fishing with family. You had to have a witness to your story for “the one that got away”. What Dad loved to do most was to make his yard beautiful. He would spend all his time in the yard from sun-up to sunset. The only time he would come in was when mom would call him in to eat. He received many cards in the mail or at the front door that would tell him how much they enjoyed his yard and how it brightened their day. Dad didn’t know any of them and it meant a lot to him that his work in the yard, that made him happy, could uplift someone else’s day.
Dad is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who served faithfully in the callings he held.
Family is the most important thing to dad. He loved to spend his time supporting us in sporting events, baby blessings, or taking care of our needs. He loved vacationing and making all the fun memories all together. Dad would say, “I love my family, I just love them all”. He was a quiet man. He would sit back and take it all in. Dad had a teasing sense of humor – passed on to the rest of us.
He will always be loved and greatly missed.
Survived by his loving wife, Sandra Williams, children, Lisa McGuire (Shawn), Devin Williams (Daun), Stacy Lloyd (Mike), Shawn Williams (Anna), 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Florence Peterson and Dorothy Sperry and many nieces and nephews.
Viewings will be held Friday, January 10, 2025, from 6:00 – 8:30 pm and Saturday from 10:00-10:30 am with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am, all held at the LDS Chapel, 235 East Sego Lily Drive (9800 South) Sandy, Utah 84070.
Grave dedication will take place in Nephi, Utah.
