Dr. Eberle Ann (Philippus) Corkish
April 5, 1935 - April 21, 2026
Dr. Eberle Ann (Philippus) Corkish was born April 5, 1935 in Denver, Colorado to Louis Christian Philippus and Lulu Elizabeth (Eberle) Philippus. She met her future husband (Thomas E. Corkish) in Denver while playing in a music band together. They were married in October 1954. Thomas E. Corkish, at that time, was in the United States Army and as a married couple they moved to Rothbury, Michigan. This is where their son Ronald A. Corkish was born.
After an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army, the couple moved to Chicago, Illinois where Thomas attended Moody Bible Institute. It was in Chicago that their daughter Deborah L. Corkish was born. Eberle also attended a few classes at Moody Bible Institute. She would carefully tie her son into a folding chair during class time.
In addition to raising two children, being a Pastor’s wife for 67 years ministering to the women of the Churches where they served, and teaching piano and organ lessons Eberle managed to take several correspondence college courses. Eventually she received her Bachelor of Education through Florida Bible College in Miami, Florida.
Eberle also managed to attend Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois on Saturdays and was able to obtain her Masters Degree in Education. Years later she was given an Honorary Doctorate from Great Plains Baptist Divinity School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Her Doctorate was in Religious Education.
Her husband, Thomas E. Corkish preceded her in death on July 22, 2023. She is survived by her son (Ronald), her daughter (Deborah), and grandchildren Brandon (Erin) Corkish, Brent (Naomi) Corkish, and Brittney (Phil) Welu. There are four great-grandchildren Adrian Corkish, Austyn Corkish, Owen Welu and Kyla Welu. Her family also included members located in Nebraska, New Mexico, and Florida, as well as members of Freedom Baptist Church.
Eberle spent the majority of her adult life teaching in Christian Schools as well as teaching piano and organ lessons to hundreds of people along the way. She played for Church Services and special music for many a year. She was also part of a Bible Study occasionally teaching the group at the assisted living facility where she resided.
