Edward Henry Andrews' Obituary
Edward Henry Andrews Jr, aged 85, passed away on January 5, 2025, in Sandy, UT. Born on February 7, 1939, Ed or "Pop" will be remembered for his fierce love of his family, friends, sports, and his gentleness, kindness and willingness to help anyone in need.
Edward is survived by his wife, Betty and children Edward, (Zak, Whitney, and Kierra), Tracy and Dirk Klausmeier (Miranda and Sean Gooddell, and Chandler), and Debbie (Shane, Kendra, Cameron, and Deanna Wilde).
Ed attended kindergarten - 6th grade at Whittier Elementary with his unsuspecting future wife, Betty, and he graduated from Olympus High School joining the Army shortly afterwards. Upon his return from Fort Ord, he attended Utah State then BYU on baseball scholarships but left after half a semester to race cars, and cause a little chaos. A few speeding tickets too many, a concerned judge “suggested” he go to Montana to work on a sheep ranch until the great earthquake in 1959. In Salt Lake he began his career, married that classmate, and started his family in 1962. He was a mechanic for LH Strong first at the Volkswagen shop and then at the Porsche shop before venturing out to own his own shop. He became one of the top Porsche mechanics in Utah and people would travel from out of state for his expertise; we considered him a brilliant surgeon that could repair any engine. He took great care to do whatever was necessary to fix his customers’ car problems, and they were loyal. Pop was a social butterfly and would spend hours chatting and socializing with clients and friends at the shop, coffee shops, grocery store, or anywhere a conversation could be had. He loved sharing stories and building deep relationships with people from all walks of life. He had a talent for leaving each person feeling a little happier than they were before. In his spare time, Pop was a top high school and college football referee and had hoped to move to the NFL before his assault. He also enjoyed car racing, baseball, bowling, camping, fishing, hunting, golfing, corn hole, razor riding and skiing. He was notorious for his fondness for coffee, fervent sweet tooth, and love of any sugary confection. His and mom’s winters were spent in their favorite place, Beaver Dam, AZ, with our second family: The Rat Pack. They went on many adventures with this group, and this amazing friendship has lasted over 50 years. He always kept a dollar in his pocket and made sure you did too. Pop dedicated his life to his wife, family, and friends. He never quit and he never gave up and made sure he provided for and made things easy for his family up to the end. Ed is a true role model for anyone who interacted with him, and there were a lot! He will be profoundly missed, but his legacy will endure. We will host a celebration of life in the spring and will repost when we are closer to the date.
